45-year-old Josh Brolin is trying to get back on track after a series of public altercations — he has checked into rehab for substance abuse, as Us Weekly reports.

"He realized he needed help and is committed to his sobriety," an insider tells the site, saying that he is seeking help at a Northern California facility.

Earlier this month, he was the inadvertent star of two damning TMZ videos — one of him punching a bouncer in Santa Monica and another of him screaming at a cabbie at a Los Angeles drive-thru. He later told TMZ that he has sworn off alcohol.

The rehab stint means that Josh may miss some vital press opportunities for his new film, the revenge thriller Oldboy. Josh is the lead actor in Spike Lee's adaptation of the 2003 Korean hit film — starring opposite Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, and Samuel L. Jackson. The movie hits theaters this Wednesday, November 27.

Josh is also well-known for his parts in W., No Country for Old Men, The Goonies, American Gangster and for his Oscar-nominated role in Milk. He's the son of actor James Brolin, the stepson of stage and screen legend Barbra Streisand, and the ex-husband of actress Diane Lane.

Here's hoping he puts all these troubles behind him and gets back to doing what he does best!
