Ke$ha shocked us when she entered rehab earlier this month to treat her eating disorder — and it surprised us even more when her mom, Pebe Sebert, was soon to follow. And while Pebe’s already spoken out on why producer Dr. Luke may have been to blame for Ke$ha’s self-esteem struggles, she recently told People that her body issues can be traced all the way back to Ke$ha’s pre-teen years… and that they were much worse than we originally suspected.

“I’ve watched my beautiful, self-confident, brilliant daughter be berated and ridiculed for her looks and weight to the point that she almost died,” Pebe said. “The doctors told me her blood pressure and sodium levels were so low, they’d never seen it that low except with someone who’d had a heart attack or stroke. They said it was a miracle she hadn’t already dropped dead on stage.”

Yikes! It sounds like Ke$ha caught her problem just in time — right after the old weight issues she initially battled in middle school were made worse by Dr. Luke and manager David Sonenberg’s harsh requests that she drop pounds when she signed with them at 18.

“One time on a conference call, Sonenberg was screaming, ‘You need to lose weight! I don’t care what you do … take drugs, not eat, stick your finger down your throat!’” Pebe said. “Ke$ha was just weeping. She drove around afterward thinking about killing herself.”

“[Dr. Luke] has always been very disrespectful about her weight,” Pebe added. “He’d say it in certain ways, like, ‘Why don’t you try running?’ She was doing everything and not getting thin fast enough, and that’s when she first became bulimic.”

So what’s next for Ke$ha once she completes rehab?

“At this point, she doesn’t care if she ever makes a record again,” Pebe said. “She just wants to be healthy and happy.”

We wish Ke$ha all the best on her recovery — whether it means making a return to music or not.
