Rob Lowe may have played health nut Chris Traeger during his time on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, but in real life, Rob hasn’t always kept to the straight and narrow. Now, in an interview with Oprah (naturally), the 50-year-old actor talks about his darkest days including that stint in rehab way back in 1990.
“Did you like rehab?” Lady Harpo asks Rob of the experience he had more than 24 years ago.
“I loved it,” he says while eagerly leaning in her direction (a move that practically yells Traeger). “I mean, look, I didn’t love the fact that I had to go and it was unbelievably painful. But I like the science. I couldn’t have gotten sober without rehab.”
Rob explains it was the “science” of the program that eventually convinced him to make a life change. “I needed to go to college of addiction and what it does to your body and all of the research,” he explains. “A lot of people can do it through 12-step programs alone. I wouldn't have been one of them though I believe in that too. I needed to do the work.”
Now those are words Chris Traeger would be proud to hear!
