Gwyneth Paltrow's Former Flames (VIDEO)

In case you missed the big news, Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, have decided to split in what they call "conscious uncoupling." What does that mean? If what they're doing is any indication, it's separating with no drama and a ton of grace. No matter how you feel about goop, it's a pretty admirable breakup.

Of course, it hasn't always gone that way with Gwyneth. ET took a look back on her former flames and how those relationships lived and died — and when things went down publicly, it wasn't always pretty.

Brad Pitt: 1996-1997. Gwyneth was unfiltered in her adoration for Brad — she described him in an interview as "sweet, intelligent, and down-to-earth… just a guy just like everybody else." Then-23-year-old Gwen met Brad, then 33, on the set of Se7en, and the pair fell head-over-heels for each other.

Without even being engaged, they started talking about having tons of kids in interviews — but just a few months after, the couple split up.

"My internal stuff really tripped up that whole relationship," Gwyneth would later tell Diane Sawyer. "I was the architect of my own misery."

She said it took "about five years" for her to recover — perhaps due in part to the plethora of photos of her and Brad being all lovey-dovey still floating around out there.

Ben Affleck: 1997-1999. Soon after the Brad split, Gwyneth started dating Ben — but actively avoided the red carpet cuddle-shots so common in her previous relationship. The couple posed together at one premiere, but after that, Gwyneth started dragging him away from the flashing cameras.

Luke Wilson 2001-2002. At this point, Gwyneth was pretty much over dating in the public eye. We're not even sure what exactly went down with these two — whenever she was asked about Luke, she responded, "I don't talk about my personal life."

With Chris, Gwyneth appears to be trying a new strategy — getting ahead of press with a joint statement. So far, it appears to be working out… at least, working out as well as a breakup can.
