What do you get the couple who has been together for more than four decades? Just a hearty round of applause. Actress Lily Tomlin and her long-time partner, Jane Wagner, tied the knot on New Year’s Eve, according to People.
Together for 42 years, Lily and Jane said their “I dos” in a private ceremony in Los Angeles, Lily’s rep tells the magazine.
Marriage is just the most recent partnership for the entertainment power couple. They’ve also worked together on the Tony Award-winning show The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe, among other ventures.
The couple first got together in the early 1970s and, according to People, met when Lily was looking for someone to help her develop the Sesame Street character of Edith Ann. Now 74, Lily’s acting career has included the likes of The West Wing and, more recently, Lisa Kudrow’s new series, Web Therapy. Jane, 78, is also a pillar in the entertainment industry with three Primetime Emmys to her name.
Lily had hinted she and Jane may be walking down the aisle after last year’s historic Supreme Court decision that ruled the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional.
“You don’t really need to get married, but marriage is awfully nice," Lily said at the time. “Everybody I know who got married, they say it really makes a difference. They feel very, very happy about it.”
Just as we hope you feel very, very happy about your own nuptials!
