Whenever a Hollywood power couple like Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade gets engaged, there’s a number of things we all wonder about: What’s the ring look like? When and where will the wedding be? Who will she wear? And so on, and so forth. But once we get all of those answers, we turn to the hard reality of it all: Will the two wealthy celebs get a prenuptial agreement?
First of all, let’s get back to that ring question. We’ve seen some shots of Gabrielle’s rock before, but when she appeared on The Arsenio Hall Show this week, we finally got to see it live in action. And all we can say is, WHOA. Check out that stunner (at left). That can’t be real, right? It looks like the diamond version of a ring pop.
Arsenio agrees with us. “It looks like you could put that in a drink and keep it cold,” the host quips. “That’s a big piece of ice!”
Now, back to the question of whether the veteran actress, 41, and her NBA player fiancé are going to be protecting those assets. Well, Gabrielle admits she’s made some bad choices in her relationships of years past, so you better believe she’s learned her lesson.
“I’m divorced, so clearly I’ve made a ton of mistakes before,” the Being Mary Jane star admits.
But never again! “The biggest difference between this and the last marriage will be a prenup,” she reveals, before adding, “At my insistence!”
Arsenio is clearly surprised by this revelation — Dwyane is worth a reported $95 million, after all. But for Gabrielle, it’s all about having your own, she explains.
“When you have your own stuff, you don’t have to worry about anybody’s else’s stuff,” the timeless beauty details. “Everyone should go into the relationship knowing ‘I’m here for you, and you’re here for me.’ The reality is, I’ve never seen Dwyane balance a checkbook…. so, I gotta protect my stuff! That’s the way of the future, protecting your stuff.”
Way to be, lady! More gals should follow your lead. We didn’t think we could admire Gabrielle more, but we were wrong.
Are you surprised that Gabrielle was the one who requested a prenup? Tell us in the comments below.
