For anyone who’s been waiting since the days of My So-Called Life for Jared Leto to utter the magic words, “I want you to stay,” your time has come.

The 30 Seconds to Mars frontman reminded fans exactly how he became responsible for ushering in the sexual maturity of an entire generation with a sexy, soulful performance of “Stay,” Rihanna and Mikky Ekko’s devastating, pared-down ode to love and loss.

Jared, who performed the song with his band for BBC Radio’s Live Lounge, lent his crackling, blues-inflected vocals to the melody, breathing new life into the song, while remaining true to the piece’s delicate structure.

Despite being only a red car and a flannel shirt away from giving fans the full Jordan Catalano experience, Jared kindly erred on the side of hipster throughout the performance, making sure not to take off his mirrored sunglasses in the dark studio at any point for fear of mesmerizing all of mankind with his icy blue eyes and stopping human progress in its tracks.

Jared, who has taken a break from movies since 2009 to focus on his music and, apparently, perfecting the art of the ombre highlight, can next be seen on the big screen as an AIDS patient opposite Matthew McConaughey in The Dallas Buyers Club.

What do you think of Jared’s cover of “Stay”?
