We totally get that Daniel Radcliffe’s all grown-up and non-wizardry now, but he’ll always be Harry Potter in our eyes. So when we heard Dan says he could take on another top-tier fantasy protagonist, our heads about exploded. Imagine this: Harry Potter versus Frodo from The Lord of the Rings.
We have Stephen Colbert of The Colbert Report to thank for this cross-movie mashup. During Daniel’s October 1 appearance on the show, Colbert posed the question, “Do you think you could take [Elijah Wood] in a fight?”
“I’m not calling him out or anything,” Dan begins to answer, hemming and hawing until he realizes we’re talking about a hobbit and shouts, “Hell, yes. Yes, I could!” while enthusiastically hitting the table for added emphasis.
The Boy Who Lived faces the Ring-bearer. This is gonna be good. Colbert, make it so.
Before we got sidetracked by images of Dumbledore sitting down for a pint of butterbeer with Gandalf, however, we were totally struck by Dan’s American accent. On Colbert to promote his latest movie, Kill Your Darlings, Dan discusses what it was like to play famous beat poet Allen Ginsberg. The accompanying clip of Harry Potter speaking with an American accent was kinda disconcerting, dontcha think?
Who do you think would win in a Daniel-Elijah faceoff? Did you buy Dan’s American accent? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
