As they prepare to release their first full album in four years, V, the Jonas Brothers dished to Out about their lives now and how they feel about various pop culture talking points — including Miley Cyrus's controversial 2013 MTV Video Music Awards performance.

On that twerk-tastic topic, Joe was very diplomatic about his distaste for the brassy display.

"It wasn’t my favorite performance of hers," he expressed. "I think that there’s one way of saying you’ve grown up, and there’s another way — I think that’s her way. Look, people are talking about it, so I think it’s working for what she wants."

Nick, however, spoke more favorably. "She’s smart," he said. "She’s very smart. We’ve always known that about her. She’ll always be successful. [The performance] was funny — I was laughing."

And Nick is practically a Miley expert, though he might be more familiar with her Hannah Montana persona than this new oversexed image: He dated Miley from 2006 to 2007.

The brothers also addressed those persistent gay rumors — as you can read here — offered up their opinions on twerking — Joe is a fan, Nick is not, Kevin believes in moderation — and detailed why they took so much time off.

"For seven years, it was nonstop," Kevin explained. "We had moments where we got frustrated with one another and we really just needed time alone. You can imagine what it’s like for a band to be together all the time, but imagine if they’re family, too. Taking that break was so nice because we worked our asses off, but we did things for ourselves. Then, we came back at the right time to do this all over again."

And we're ready to receive your new tunes, dudes!
