Hey ya, we've got some bad news to report. According to court documents obtained by Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Sherlita Patton filed for divorce from her rapper husband Antwon Andre Patton, also known as OutKast MC Big Boi, on Wednesday, October 2 — after more than 11 years of marriage!
Big Boi and Sherlita were married in February 2002 and have two children together, ages 18 and 12. Sherlita is seeking full custody and child support from her Grammy-winning hubby, plus alimony.
No word yet on what happened between the couple, but according to the divorce filings, their marriage is “irretrievably broken."
Back in November 2012, things seemed a bit strained. In fact, Big Boi told Idolator that his wife wouldn't speak to him for a whole week when the super explicit video dropped for "She Said OK," a song from his second solo album, Vicious Lies And Dangerous Rumors.
"When they banned that s—t on TV she was happy as a mother," he said, adding that though he's a family man he'll always be a "wild boy" at heart.
Despite Sherlita's reaction (which we think was totally justified, by the way), Big Boi was under the impression that everything at home was cool.
"My marriage and everything is great," he told Hip Hop DX. "I’ve been with my woman for twenty years [total]. We’re going on our 11th anniversary come Valentine’s Day. We’ve got three beautiful kids. I’ve got a daughter that’s about to go off to college. And life is really, really good."
Guess his Valentine's Day roses really smelled like poo-oo-ooo. Sorry, couldn't resist. But in all seriousness, we send our best to Big Boi and Sherlita during this difficult time.
