Jennifer Hudson was singing "And I Am Telling You, I'm Not Drinking" last night on Chelsea Lately — in effect, anyway — telling host Chelsea Handler that she has never had a drop of alcohol in her life.
The 32-year-old Oscar winner (and American Idol contestant) appeared on the E! talk show to promote her latest movie, The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete, in which she plays an addict mother whose arrest forces her son to fend for himself on the Brooklyn streets with another abandoned child. Other notable names in the cast include Anthony Mackie, Jordin Sparks, and Jeffrey Wright.
"I love this new movie," Chelsea raved on the October 10 episode. "It's great because you play a heroin addict, which is the only drug I've never tried. You've never done heroin?"
"I've never done anything," Jennifer replied, "so that was hard to play this role. I've never had a drink in my life. I'm sober. I'm like, 'Okay, this is new to me.' Normally as an actor, you have things to pull from. I was like, 'I don't know what it's like to feel any of that.'"
"What do you mean, you've never had a drink?" Chelsea demanded. "What are you waiting for?"
