Christopher McDonald is the latest Hollywood celebrity to be handcuffed for drinking and driving.

TMZ reports that North Carolina Highway Patrol deputies arrested the 58-year-old actor around 4:30 a.m. this morning (October 16) in Wilmington on charges of driving while intoxicated — with a blood alcohol level of 0.15, which is nearly twice the legal limit. Bail is set at $1,000.

Christopher is best known for playing enemy golfer Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore but his other notable roles include Geena Davis's hubby in Thelma & Louise and a sleazy infomercial host in Requiem for a Dream.

On TV, he recently starred as arrogant attorney Tommy Jefferson in Harry's Law and as real-life Attorney General Harry M. Daughtry in Boardwalk Empire.

According to local film production blog Wilmywood Daily, Christopher arrived in Wilmington only yesterday to film a role in the upcoming indie The Squeeze — in which he's starring with Jeremy Sumpter (Peter Pan) and Katherine LaNasa (Deception).

Other recent celebrity DUIs and DWIs include Dina Lohan last month and Lamar Odom and Miguel in August. Hopefully Christopher's mistake is the last in this dangerous trend.
