Matthew Perry and Lizzy Caplan may have had the most under-the-radar celebrity relationship of all time — beginning to end.
After quietly getting together in 2006, the TV stars broke up in 2012, Us Weekly reports. "It happened a year-and-a-half ago," a source tells the magazine. "They haven't been together for a long time."
Matthew is someone we all know and love from Friends, though none of his subsequent TV shows — Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Mr. Sunshine, and Go On — have even neared that comedy juggernaut's success or longevity. (All three lasted just one season.) The 44-year-old has previously been romantically linked to Julia Roberts, Yasmine Bleeth, and Lauren Graham.
Meanwhile, Lizzy's career has gotten a major boost recently with her role in the buzzy new Showtime drama Masters of Sex — in which she and Michael Sheen portray the real-life scientists Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson, whose work pioneered research into the human sexual response. The 31-year-old is also known for her roles in True Blood and Party Down on TV and Mean Girls and Cloverfield on the big screen.
Who knows whether their split was amicable or not — or if we'll ever know, given their preference for privacy — but we admire their class in not making a big deal out of it online or in the press.
