Cher Lloyd may seem like the epitome of self-confidence, with her cheeky demeanor and cutesy-yet-cutting lyrics, but even pop stars aren’t immune to feelings of low self-esteem.
Last winter, 20-year-old British singer revealed OK! Magazine that she had found herself feeling less than entirely confident with her looks and has a plan of action she’d like to take to transform herself.
“I really want to go and get my teeth done,” she said. “Not veneers, but I want this gap gone. It’s terrible. I look at pictures, and I’m like ‘that would’ve been great if I didn’t look so goofy.’”
She now reveals that she’s gone ahead and had the procedure done, to fantastic results.
“I feel great,” she says. “I mean, I just spent a whole bunch of money on getting my teeth fixed. I should like them, and I do. I’m feeling really, really good about myself. I’m glad that I got it done. It’s given me a lot more confidence, and I really do smile a lot now. I don’t think I ever do pictures with my mouth shut.”
While the pressure of media scrutiny (and the pressure of bucking the bad British teeth stereotype) may have prompted the change, she says she’s pleased that she made the decision to rework her smile.
“I’m really happy with the work I had done. I don’t feel like it’s so much of a major change, it’s just something I had to do for myself. I had to do it for me and my self-confidence,” she says.
“In the industry I’m in now, I mean, I have to feel happy about myself. I have to!”
