When the Jonas Brothers announced that they had made the decision to split earlier this week, the reasoning behind the band’s break up left many fans scratching their heads.

Now the brothers are finally revealing why they felt the need to pull the plug on their family band to People — but it’s not exactly the scandalous story fans may have been expecting.

The wholesome trio reveals to the magazine that they gave up on their band because they didn’t want their work squabbles to spill over into their family life.

"You prep a million ways," reveals Nick of his decision to bring up the idea of splitting with his brothers.

Once the idea had been presented, "there was sort of a shut-off that happened. It took some time, about 24 hours or so, before we could really talk about it."

Joe admits that, despite the band’s previous disagreements, Nick’s announcement came as a surprise to everyone.

“Kevin and I thought we were going into a meeting about releasing some of the music we'd been working on," says Joe.

Although the band was blindsided by Nick’s announcement, Kevin admits that, with impending fatherhood on his mind, he hadn’t been giving his all to the band.

"We're choosing our family because it was becoming toxic," he says. "I wasn't contributing to the music the way I should have.

While the guys may not have been getting along prior to the split, actually discussing their decision was emotional for all of them.

"There were tears and yelling from everybody,” says Nick.
