It's almost like a celebrity rite of passage — have a highly-publicised breakup, be part of a wardrobe nontroversy, perform with the Muppets. Lady Gaga is heading up the Muppets Holiday Special on Thanksgiving, so we thought we'd take a look back at which other Wetpaint Entertainment stars are friends of Kermit!

From Demi Lovato to Katy Perry, from Beyonce to David Boreanaz, here's a far-from-complete list of interesting and unexpected celebs appearing with the Muppets.

Ashley Tisdale

Tons of Disney starlets performed with the Muppets on the series of Disney Channel specials Studio DC, and Ashley Tisdale was no exception. She teamed up with Kermit for a duet of the Latin-inspired High School Musical song "Bob to the Top," and the result is… uncomfortably flirty.

Beyonce (With Destiny's Child)

In a mid-show Sesame Street segment that first appeared in 2002, Destiny's Child performed a soul-inspired song called "A New Way to Walk" with Elmo, Grover, and Zoe. Beyonce is matched up with Elmo, and it's pretty adorable.

Jessica Simpson

Pizza Hut pulled out all the stops one Super Bowl Sunday with a commercial featuring both Jessica Simpson and the Muppets! Jessica looks too sexy with her four pizzas in one box, though, and Miss Piggy has to megaphone her away from Kermie.

The Muppets also starred in the TV special The Nick and Jessica Variety Hour, with then-married Jessica and Nick Lachey.

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez is a good friend of the Muppets! She hosted one of their Live From Studio DC Disney Channel specials, she had a cameo in the 2011 movie The Muppets, and she helped Kermit fight for endangered amphibians with this adorable PSA. The kiss at the end is the cutest part.

Miley Cyrus

On an October 2008 edition of Studio DC on the Disney Channel, Miley Cyrus performs "G.N.O. (Girls' Night Out) with Electric Mayhem after she and dad Billy Ray Cyrus's band gets, in the words of Pepe and Rizzo, "tied up, heh heh."

As Miley put it, "Oh, sweet nibblets!"

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt explaining what "reinforced" means on Sesame Street just reinforces our love for him.

Ashanti

Even before starring in New York City Center's 2009 production of The Wiz, Ashanti played Dorothy Gale in 2005's The Muppets' Wizard of Oz.

Sandra Oh

Grey's Anatomy star Sandra Oh plays the Cookie Fairy Person on an episode of Sesame Street. She gives Cookie Monster the gift of a magic cookie touch before she realizes it's a terrible idea and takes it away.

Darren Criss

This is so cute that we're crying! Glee's Darren Criss joined Kermit the Frog for for a duet of "The Rainbow Connection” at the 2012 Academy Awards pre-show. After Darren tells Kermit that he's a big Muppets fan, Kermit gives the line that Glee reminds him of The Muppet Show: "you just burst out into song whenever you feel like it."

Katy Perry

Katy Perry caused a controversy during her Sesame Street appearance when she wore "dress-up clothes" to play with Elmo that showed a significant amount of skin. But hey — everything stayed on, and she gave an adorable performance of Hot and Cold, slightly modified to be about having playtime with Elmo instead of having a fickle boyfriend. The segment aired on YouTube, but never made it to television due to complaints. Katy spoofed the incident on a Saturday Night Live appearance later that year.

Chris Brown

In 2007, Chris Brown walked around the town with Elmo, seeing city sights and helping him read signs in a duet called, appropriately, "See the Signs."

Demi Lovato

Add Demi Lovato to the list of celebrity babes that have made Miss Piggy jealous over the years! In the Disney Channel special Live On Studio DC, a last-minute intervention from Piggy causes Kermit to bail on a duet with Demi after the song's already started, leaving Beaker to meep-meep his way through Kermit's part.

David Boreanaz

Bones star David Boreanaz's Muppet experience was a little different than some other celebs. In "Smile Time," a 2004 episode of Angel, a children's TV show called Smile Time eventually leads to Angel turning into a puppet.

It's no coincidence that Puppet Angel looked exactly like a muppet! Joss Whedon's dad, Tom Whedon, was a collaborator of Jim Hensen's in the '70s and '80s, and several of the puppeteers involved in the episode were borrowed from the Muppets franchise.
