When the Jonas Brothers shocked fans by officially disbanding in October, rumors were flying about what the cause of their breakup could possibly be. A lot of fingers pointed at middle brother, Joe, and a rumored drug addiction — but now, Joe Jonas is setting the record straight.

And not just about the breakup, either: Joe’s ready to talk about what really went on behind the scenes during their time spent as Disney stars...and his first time having sex, smoking pot, and drinking alcohol.

Joe first writes about how Disney plucked the boys out of obscurity and made them stars — at a cost, of course, especially at a time when one of their biggest stars, Vanessa Hudgens, was at the center of the scandal surrounding her nude photos that became public.

We heard that she had to be in the Disney offices for a whole day because they were trying to figure out how to keep her on lockdown,” Joe confesses. “We’d hear execs talking about it, and they would tell us that they were so proud of us for not making the same mistakes, which made us feel like we couldn’t ever mess up.”

He also reveals that he lost his virginity at age 20, presumably to Twilight actress Ashley Greene, who he was dating at the time, and that his later relationship with Camp Rock co-star Demi Lovato wasn’t exactly what it seemed.

“I really got to know her and got to see the ins and outs of what she was struggling with, like drug abuse,” Joe says. “I felt like I needed to take care of her, but at the same time I was living a lie, because I wasn’t happy but felt like I had to stay in it for her, because she needed help.”

Um, ouch? And speaking of Demi, apparently, she and Miley Cyrus co-conspired to get Joe to try weed for the first time.

“The first time I smoked weed was with Demi and Miley,” Joe reveals in the article. “I must have been 17 or 18. They kept saying, 'Try it! Try it!' so I gave it a shot, and it was all right. I don’t even smoke weed that often anymore.”

Keep in mind that at the time Joe was 17, Demi and Miley would have been around 14 years old. We just want you to think about that.

And when it comes to the band’s breakup, the truth is actually a lot more boring than any of the rumors (as it usually is).

“Things came to a head when we had a meeting where we thought we were going to talk about how to release our new music and it ended up shifting into this huge fight,” Joe says. “That was the first time we were really honest with one another about a lot of stuff we weren’t happy with. The fight got loud. I was screaming. When Nick presented the idea of closing a chapter and moving on, I freaked out.”

Later, the boys met again to talk things over once they were feeling more level-headed, and decided collectively to call it quits to preserve their bond as a family. No drugs, no secret pasts, just full on brotherly love.

His story is pretty long, but the gist is this: Joe Jonas is pretty much an actual human. Just as we suspected.

As for reactions to Joe’s essay, there are plenty. Here’s a brief rundown of the aftermath wrought by the boy bander’s big confessional:
