Yesterday, Jay Z made an important decision to celebrate his 44th birthday today — he and Beyoncé are joining the ranks of Hollywood’s healthiest and going vegan.

For 22 days, at least — because, according to what Jay Z wrote in his blog yesterday, it takes 21 days to break a habit, and day 22 is when that habit finally sets in.

"I will embark on a 22 Days challenge to go completely vegan, or as I prefer to call it, plant-based!" Jay Z said. "This all began a few months back when a good friend and vegan challenged me to embrace a 'plant-based breakfast' every day. It was surprisingly easier on me than I thought."

This is awesome news for Trader Joe's, who is about to make a killing for the next three weeks as Jay Z crosses "paying high prices for steak" off of his list of 99 problems.

So why now — other than the fact that it's a good way to ring in his new year?

"There's something spiritual to me about it being my 44th birthday and the serendipity behind the number of days in this challenge; 22 (2+2=4) coupled with the fact that the challenge ends on Christmas Day," Jay Z explained. "It just feels right!"

He also noted that Beyoncé will be joining him in his challenge, and when it's over, he may stick with it, or he may just go semi-vegan instead. We guess it depends on how much he misses burgers and chicken nuggets (and if it were us, the answer is "a lot").

We wonder if Blue Ivy will only be able to eat plant-based baby food, as well?
