Ever since Fast & Furious star Paul Walker tragically passed away on November 30, 2013, celebs have been trying to get over the shock of his death. We felt especially bad for Tyrese Gibson, Paul’s best friend and co-star, when he broke down at Paul’s memorial site after the horrific event. Tyrese broke his silence last night on The Arsenio Hall Show. Read on to hear what he had to say in his first TV interview since Paul’s death.

“It was a lot of shock and trauma for the family and all of us involved, because he’s such a nice guy,” Tyrese recounted to Arsenio Hall about finding out the bad news. “I’ve never been depressed in my life, but I was very, very sad and down.”

Luckily for Tyrese, he had other friends to lean on during the sad time, praising Will Smith for being there for him during a recent trip to Dubai.

“What gave me my smile again is really thinking about the fact I’d never seen [Paul] cry, never seen him sad and his energy was always up so I’m like, ‘Why would I be crying and sad and messed up?’” What a positive spin!

Tyrese also had kind words to say for those who had offered up their well wishes. “A lot of times we can take people praying for us for granted, but it’s really a form of rebuilding when you’re in pain and you’re confused and going through things,” he said. “And so, all of the prayers and tweets and Instagrams that you’ve sent all of us, we love you all and appreciate you all.”

Isn’t he the sweetest guy in Hollywood?
