Whether you knew Brad Pitt's shoulder-length hair from World War Z or from his Chanel commercials, it doesn't matter — those long locks are history! Brad Pitt hit the award show circuit this weekend with a dramatically-shorter hairdo, his brown locks shaved on the sides and short and slicked back on top.

But don't think that the chop job was necessarily his idea!

"It's for a part," the 50-year-old told E! News at the Producer's Guild Awards in Beverly Hills, California, on Sunday, January 19.

"It's not a choice!" he added with a laugh.

Brad just finished filming Fury — or David Ayer/Brad Pitt Untitled, as it's still listed  on IMDb — the story of a World War II tank commander leading his crew behind enemy lines in Nazi Germany. The film also stars Shia LaBeouf, Michael Cena, Logan Lerman, and Jon Bernthal.

His haircut does look military-inspired, so perhaps that's the part to which he referred. (It also harkens back to his Inglorious Basterds haircut!)

His longtime love, Angelina Jolie, wasn't by his side on this weekend's red carpets — she's in Australia, filming a WWII film of her own: her next directorial project, Unbroken.

Here's looking forward to the actor's next evolution — and that of his follicles!
