Many celebrities have mourned the death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman on social media, but few did so as controversially as Supernatural star Jared Padalecki.

"'Sad' isn't the word I'd use to describe a 46-year-old man throwing his life away to drugs," Jared tweeted. "'Senseless' is more like it. 'Stupid.'"

Jared deleted the tweet within moments, but not before sites like Jezebel snapped a screenshot.

The 31-year-old later backpedaled, writing, "I didn't mean P.S.H. is stupid or that addiction isn't a reality. I simply meant I have a different definition of 'tragedy.' When I think 'tragedy,' I think of St. Jude's, of genocide, of articles I read in the paper. But, yes, either way, a death is sad."

As TooFab points out, actor and former Reading Rainbow host LeVar Burton also courted controversy with his judgmental tweets and attempts at humor: "Damn, P.S.H. was so talented! However, if y'all should find me dead with a needle in my arm, in my underwear, please put my pants on! … Not cool is shooting up when you got kids … No matter how you slice it, P.S.H. wasted a great gift! Lash out at me if you want to… I ain't goin' out like that!"

Yikes. It seems like two things are certain in this world: tragedies and insensitively-worded comments about tragedies.
