Ten points to Gryffindor! Being in a huge film franchise like Harry Potter certainly has its "perks" for Emma Watson, which includes starring in an upcoming Ethan Hawke thriller as soon as she earns her college degree. Sounds like a magic plan to us.
News broke earlier this year that the 23-year-old beauty had headed back to Brown University to finish her undergraduate English degree, which she will earn in May 2014. Many have wondered what she might choose as her first role after she's done hitting the books.
Now, we appear to have our answer: Emma has signed on to star in the new thriller Regression, opposite The Purge star Ethan Hawke, according to Deadline. The film is about a father who is accused of a crime that he doesn't remember committing, per IMDb. It is being written and directed by the writer-director of the spooky 2001 Nicole Kidman flick The Others.
Emma has been one busy lady lately. She starred in 2012's acclaimed drama The Perks of Being a Wallflower and appeared in two big movies last year, The Bling Ring and post-apocalyptic comedy This Is the End. She'll next be seen in another movie that's sort of about the end of the world but definitely isn't a comedy: the Biblical film Noah, which hits theaters in March.
We love the idea of Emma starring in a thriller, which we haven't really seen her do yet. We just hope that this film does better than Ethan Hawke's last movie, 2013's Getaway, which — despite starring another in-demand starlet, Selena Gomez — only grossed $10 million and was quickly forgotten. Don't worry — we have faith in you, Hermione.
Does Regression sound like a movie you want to see?
