Since Dylan Farrow released her open letter detailing famed director (and Dylan’s former step-father) Woody Allen’s alleged molestation of her as a child, Woody’s camp has done everything in their power to make it clear that they believe these allegations are false — and that Dylan’s mom, Mia Farrow, is to blame for implanting false memories that Dylan was abused that she now believes are real.

Now, Mia has spoken out on Twitter amid these accusations, and, like any mother, she’s less concerned with what Woody and his lawyer are saying about her and more worried about how Dylan’s dealing with the situation.

“I love my daughter. I will always protect her,” Mia tweeted Tuesday. “A lot of ugliness is going to be aimed at me. But this is not about me, it’s about her truth.”

Mia is right: a lot of “ugliness” has been aimed at her. After Woody’s lawyer, Elkan Abramowitz, released a statement saying that Dylan’s memories of childhood abuse had been “engineered by a vengeful lover,” AKA Mia. And when Elkan appeared on the Today show yesterday, he backed up his original claims.

“[Woody’s] reaction is one of overwhelming sadness because of what has happened to Dylan,” Elkan said. “She was a pawn in a huge fight between him and Mia Farrow years ago, and the idea that she was molested was implanted in her by her mother and that memory is never going to go away. The fact that she says this now, that it happened 20 years ago is totally understandable.”
