Let’s set the record straight. This has been Lupita Nyong’o’s year, no doubt about that. Ever since she appeared in 12 Years a Slave and stole the red carpet in her rainbow of frocks, she has stolen our hearts as well. After all, she was the belle of the 2014 Oscars (see her Cinderella-esque dress for proof), during which she took home a golden statuette for Best Supporting Actress. So what’s next for this style-setter? A big beauty campaign!
Just today, news broke that Lupita will be joining the ranks of Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, and Penelope Cruz as the latest face of Lancôme, and it was only a matter of time. This girl has been breaking beauty rules since her first red carpet appearance — we’re talking about wearing blue eyeshadow while dressed in a (gasp!) blue dress — and we love her for it. Her new beauty gig was a no brainer; we’re just wondering why it took so long!
“I am truly honored to join the Maison Lancôme, a brand with such a prestigious history and that I have always loved,” Lupita said in a statement (via People). “I am particularly proud to represent its unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman’s freedom to be herself.”
Chills. This woman is a breath of fresh air, and her first portrait for the campaign says it all. She simply sports a natural look complete with a nude lip, and it’s enough to convince us to wear barely-there makeup as well. But really.
“Both talented and committed, true to her African beauty, and showing a great curiosity and open-mindedness in her career choices, Lupita is by essence the Lancôme woman,” adds the general manager of Lancôme International, Françoise Lehmann.
“A strikingly beautiful and intelligent woman, serenely but strongly living her life her own way, Lupita has this special kind of aura, both enlightening and deep.” We’re so happy to see Lupita finally take on the beauty world!
