Seth Meyer’s days behind the Weekend Update desk on Saturday Night Live might be over, but his hosting days are not. According to the Los Angeles Times, Seth is officially set to host the 2014 Emmy Awards!
NBC’s head of late night and alternative programming, Paul Telegdy, released a statement from the network — completely littered with compliments for Seth, of course — on Friday announcing the good news.
“Seth’s expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at SNL as well as his comedic brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera on SNL and Late Night make him the perfect choice to host the Emmys,” the statement said.
And although we absolutely loved Neil Patrick Harris as a host at last year’s Emmy’s, we’re excited to see what Seth can do. This new hosting gig will also help bring viewers to Seth’s new Late Night, and we all get to laugh in the process. It’s a win/win!
“Seth is such a talented performer and writer, and we know he will bring something unique to hosting the Primetime Emmy Awards,” CEO and Chairman of the Television Academy Bruce Rosenblum added.
The Emmy Awards air live on August 25 at 8 p.m. ET.
