Hermione is a college graduate!
Actress Emma Watson graduated from Brown University —an Ivy League school — on Sunday, May 25 in Rhode Island. The 24-year-old Harry Potter star studied English literature, starting in 2009 then taking a break in 2011 and returning to finish her studies last year.
Emma celebrated her big day by tweeting the gorgeous cap-and-gown selfie shown, with the simple caption "!"
Congrats! Other celeb Brown alumni include John Krasinski, Laura Linney, Todd Haynes, Tim Blake Nelson, Julie Bowen, Michael Showalter, Eva Amurri, and JoBeth Williams.
Emma recently talked about her upcoming graduation on an episode of Ellen. In America we usually graduate in four years, but for her it was five. She said she took two full semesters off and worked during her breaks. Emma said people kind of took pity on her in her first year at school. "Brown kids were actually weirdly protective of me," she said, in situations around Providence. They wanted to help her have that normal college experience. She said her parents are proud of her, but they can't really wrap their heads around how long it’s taken her to graduate. In England it's usually three years so after five they were wondering when it would happen.
The time is now! Congrats to Emma. After huge acting success she certainly didn’t need to go to college to land a good job, she just did it to further her education (and to finally have a semi-normal adolescent experience). Stay awesome, girl!
