Never fear, everyone: We have a new crime-fighting superhero in our midst. Take the day off, Batman. David Schwimmer is officially here to ensure that we stay safe and sound, especially if you live in his NYC neighborhood.
According to the New York Post, the former Friends star invited cops to his East Village townhouse to view his personal surveillance video, which helped police identify a man who was involved in a stabbing that happened in front of his apartment early Monday morning.
The fight, between three men, including a john and a prostitute, took place in a ground floor apartment and escalated to the point where the men smashed through the lobby door and ended up on the sidewalk. Reportedly, the prostitute had stolen the john’s computer when he refused to pay him, and and the john and his friend had shown up at his apartment to get retribution.
The prostitute fled the scene while Robert Rainey, 21, was arrested for assault, criminal possession of a weapon and robbery. The third man involved wasn’t identified until David was able to show police the video.
“Four years ago, I would say David Schwimmer was the least popular guy on the block with the construction and all,” resident Jayson Fillermutter says of the huge renovation David did when he first moved in. “But he has turned out to be a decent neighbor, and I am glad to hear he helped the cops with that stabbing.”
And we’d like to believe that Ross Gellar would be so proud.
