Megan Fox might be starring in the reboot of the classic kids show, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but the series is nothing new to her. In fact, Megan says she spent a good part of her childhood obsessed with the turtles — one in particular, actually.

“Everyone thinks this is really weird, but little girls have crushes on animated characters, and my first crush was Michaelangelo,” Megan admitted, according to E! News. “They were my favorite movies as a kid. That was my thing. Way, way more so than Star Wars, or in later years, still more than Lord of The Rings. It was always Ninja Turtles.”

In the new version, Megan plays April O’Neil, the iconic news reporter who is BFF with the turtles. Fortunately for Megan, this means she got plenty of screentime with her childhood crush, and even got a bit of a makeover for the role — especially when it came to her signature dark hair.

“We went through many shades of red, and then we toned it down to a deep auburn,” Megan said. “But when they color time the movie it will be more red, FYI.”

The first trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was released in March, and we couldn’t be more excited to see the show come to life on the big screen! Watching our favorite kids shows go from animated to live action? Yep, one of the high points of growing up for sure.

So is it time for Megan’s kids, Noah and Bodhi, to chow down on some pizza and become part of the next generation of TMNT fans? We’ll find out!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hits theaters August 8.
