James Franco has fallen in love with Broadway during his time as part of the Of Mice and Men cast — and we would, too, if we got to share the stage with Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester. But for James’s next project in the world of theater, he won’t be sharing the stage with anyone. In fact, he’ll actually be behind it.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, James will be directing an Off-Broadway play called The Long Shrift, about a man who is released from prison after being accused of rape as a teenager. The production, which opens July 13, will feature stars like Scott Haze and Ally Sheedy.

And although this will be James’s first stab at taking the reigns over a stage production, he’s no stranger to the director’s chair. He’s directed many shorts and documentaries, as well movies, like As I Lay Dying, which also starred Scott Haze. And although much of what he directs he usually stars in, James isn’t a part of the cast this time around.

Just as long as he keeps the NSFW selfies (and Lindsay Lohan anecdotes) out of it, we think James will do a pretty good job. Congrats on the new gig!
