Don't try this at home, kids. When Zoe Kravitz had to drop 20 pounds for her role in the upcoming film The Road Within, the 25-year-old actress's weight loss method of choice was… divergent, to say the least.

"I did a cleanse," she tells Us Weekly.

OK, not too shocking yet — a lot of people do cleanses to, ahem, flush the pounds away. But keep reading…

"I tried to do it the healthiest way as possible, even though it's not healthy to do," she continues. "I ended up drinking clay."

Clay?! Why would anyone ingest the dirt-y stuff? "It cleans out your body and fills you up," Zoe explains. "I was eating, like, a Mason jar of pureed vegetables a day and running."

She may have been inspired by her Divergent co-star Shailene Woodley, an outspoken fan of clay cleanses.

So what kind of role has her going all Matthew McConaughey and becoming scary-thin?

She plays a character with an eating disorder in the film — the story of a young man with Tourette's Syndrome who goes on a road trip with his recently-deceased mother's ashes. Zoe co-stars with Dev Patel.

In case you think Zoe is trying to make others into clay-converts, she assures us that she would "never encourage anyone" to do similarly. "I was a space cadet," she adds.

Sounds like she really suffered for her art!
