Michael Strahan — and everyone who works on Good Morning America — had a very scary experience this morning. According to the New York Daily News, a homeless man carrying a knife made an attempt to enter the ABC studio with the intention of killing the former New York Giants player before police were able to apprehend him.
The man, a 25-year-old named Andre Johnson, first approached the studios early Wednesday morning and was denied entrance by police. So he went with a pretty terrifying plan B: He returned later with a knife and tried to stab a security guard. Yikes!
Afterwards, when he had been taken to the Midtown South police station, Andre admitted to investigators that “I was there to kill Michael Strahan.”
Why was Andre coming after the Live! With Kelly and Michael co-host to begin with? We have no idea, and it doesn’t matter — there’s no reason in the world that’s good enough for what he was attempting to do.
Michael joined the Good Morning America cast part time this spring after months of negotiation. He’s been joining the show a couple of days a week since April, but still remains Kelly Ripa’s full-time co-host on Live.
Fortunately, this scary story has a happy ending. Michael and Andre never ended up crossing paths, and everyone at the studio (and outside of it) is safe. Good job, NYPD!
