As pioneers of reality TV with The Osbournes, Sharon Osbourne and her family put it all out there for America to see. The TV matriarch has carried over that open honesty to her roles on shows like America’s Got Talent and The Talk, and we love her more for it. And somehow, between all of that, she still finds time to be a loving wife, mother, and most recently, grandmother.
Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Sharon not too long ago to find out how the always-busy lady finds time to manage it all. Below, she opens up about son Jack becoming a father, keeping the weight off with her daughter Kelly, and whether she’d ever return as a judge on reality TV.
Wetpaint Entertainment: Your granddaughter Pearl recently turned 2. How has it been being a grandmother?
Sharon Osbourne: It was such a gift to become a grandmother. It’s amazing how much joy one little child can bring to that many people. It’s a blessing — one of the best things to happen to me in my life.
Have you seen a change in Jack since she was born?
Totally, huge changes with him. Jack was a guy that was a regular bachelor, he loved to travel. He was constantly taking trips around the world because he did extreme sports. The thought of him changing a diaper and feeding a baby was never in his mind or the family’s. Now suddenly, here he is very domesticated, very caring and attentive.
You’ve been very outspoken about your focus on health. What are some basic guidelines you follow?
I’ve always had a weight problem, and I’ve tried every diet that’s out there. Like 14 years ago I had a band put on my stomach that subsequently I had to have removed because it was making me so sick. But then I joined up with Atkins and it changed my life for the better because it wasn’t just about dieting, it was about complete change from inside to outside. Especially if your life is on the run all the time, it’s very easy to maintain the diet. I don’t like to call it a diet, it’s a lifestyle change.
Your daughter Kelly has also been really open about her own weight loss and keeping things on track. Do you two work together to keep it off?
Kelly lost hers when she did Dancing With the Stars because she was so active — dancing six hours a day for three months. But yeah, she exercises and we’ll do our workouts together occasionally. We go on walks together.
You’ve had a lot of experience judging talent on reality TV shows. Is there any talent in the music industry right now that you’re really excited about?
Oh, so many. I’ve got so many people out there that I love. I love Bruno Mars, I love Adele, I love Imagine Dragons. There are so many people in so many different genres that I just love.
Would you be open to doing another talent show someday?
You know what, I’ve been doing them on and off for 12 years and I think I’m done with it. I think I’m done with people singing at me [laughs].
Any projects you’re hoping to tackle in the future that you haven’t yet?
I’m working on a Vegas production for Ozzy for Halloween for next year, called Hellgate. We’re working on that right now.
Final tips for how to balance a busy work and family life?
Everything in moderation. All I can say to people that want to change their life around is to go to Atkins.com, all the information you need about a healthy lifestyle is there. It really, really works.
