When Brittany Murphy suddenly died in December 2009, we really, really didn’t want to believe it. Just 32 at the time of her death, the actress left behind a portfolio of work including the likes of Clueless, 8 Mile, and Sin City. Now her personal life will get the movie treatment; Lifetime has a biopic in the works, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The two-hour TV movie The Brittany Murphy Story airs in just a few short weeks, on September 6, the network says. Filling the title role will be actress Amanda Fuller; you might recognize her as Dr. Morgan Peterson on Grey’s Anatomy and Kristin Baxter on Last Man Standing. Sherilyn Fenn of Gilmore Girls and Ray Donovan fame will play Brittany’s mother, Sharon Murphy.

The real Sharon Murphy says she has not been consulted about the movie and has not cooperated with production; Lifetime has not yet revealed a source for the script. The movie will chronicle Brittany’s younger years, leading up to her death and the aftermath following her passing including her mother’s claims that the death was not accidental.

The Brittany Murphy Story premieres Saturday, September 6. Will you be watching? Tell us in the comments below!
