ORIGINAL STORY (12:09 p.m. ET): Start writing your “Get Well Soon” cards because comedic legend Joan Rivers was reportedly rushed to the hospital today, August 28. According to TMZ, the 81-year-old Fashion Police host was taken to Mt. Sinai hospital in New York City this morning when she stopped breathing during a surgery.
Per the most recent update from the news website, the NYPD says Joan is in critical condition and it’s unclear as to whether doctors were able to restart her heart. Though that doesn’t sound too good, we’re hoping it will turn around quickly.
Joan was undergoing surgery on her throat — her vocal chords, specifically — in a clinic when she stopped breathing. TMZ reports that an emergency call was placed at 9:39 a.m. ET. The caller then told 911 that they “have somebody in either cardiac or respiratory arrest.”
E! Online reports that Joan’s daughter, Melissa, and 13-year-old grandson, Cooper, took a flight to NYC this morning.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family during this time.
