Kate Hudson is a lot of things — a romantic comedy heroine and a mother, to name just two of them — but one thing she’s not doing is suffering from an eating disorder. And Kate wants to make that fact very clear.
“If there is one thing I will never have, it’s an eating disorder,” Kate told UK mag Red. “I won’t have girls — even if it’s just one or two who care — thinking that. Because it’s a serious sickness, not something to plaster on the cover of a magazine. And I am the opposite.”
This is something Kate’s had to deal with in the past. In 2006, she sued British publications for using headlines implying that she hadn’t been eating enough due to her thin frame. But it wasn’t just being skinny that Kate has been put on blast for in the past. Nope, tabloids have also gone after her for gaining too much weight while she was pregnant with her son, Ryder, who is now 10 years old.
“And I want to be giving girls the message that sometimes you do gain 70 pounds having a baby, and you can lose it if you want,” Kate said. “The whole point is I want girls to love themselves. I want them to feel good about who they are.”
Should a daughter be in Kate’s future, we think she would definitely be up to the task. We could have used these kinds of pep talks in our teen years!
“These magazines really, really want women to look bad,” Kate said. “Why would you paint such a bad picture of women that young girls look up to? I will never understand that.”
