Update (April 3, 2014):
Poor Avicii. Turns out when he was rushed to the hospital last week, he had to undergo surgery! TMZ reports his gallbladder was removed Saturday, March 29, and he spent a couple of days in the hospital before being released. Get better soon!
Original story (March 28, 2014):
Did the Florida heat get a little too much for Avicii?
TMZ reports that the Swedish DJ had to head to the hospital last night, March 27 — and that he canceled a big-ticket concert as a result.
The 24-year-old was supposed to take the stage at SLS Hotel's Hyde Beach venue — to gear up the sun-soaked city for the Ultra Music Festival this weekend. The hotel had even put a huge, illuminated "Avicii" sign on its facade in anticipation.
But around 7 p.m. ET, DJ Cassette took the stage to announce that Avicii — whose real name is Tim Bergling — had to seek medical attention and would not be performing.
A little more than two hours later, TMZ reported that Avicii had left the hospital… and checked out of the SLS Hotel. The plot thickens…
Even if Avicii's name doesn't ring a bell, you've likely heard his music — like his breakout hit single "Levels" or the tracks "Hey Brother," "Wake Me Up," or "You Make Me" from his 2013 album, True.
To paraphrase Will Smith, even though Avicii couldn't party in the city where the heat is on, at least he didn't have to spend all night in the hospital till the break of dawn!
