Emma Watson’s making headlines this week but not for the typical reasons. She hasn’t cut her hair or worn a fabulous gown; she isn’t dating anyone new or wound up in jail. This time it’s all about what Emma’s doing at home.
Immigration officials are reportedly investigating claims Emma’s one-time housekeeper illegally worked at the Harry Potter star’s London home.
The way we’re hearing it, the American housekeeper had a tourist visa to the UK, a kind of visa you can’t work on (hence the “tourist” bit). The keeper in question reportedly started working for the actress at her New York apartment at the start of last year but when she made the leap across the Pond, didn’t get all the necessary paperwork.
Between September 2013 and February 2014, the housekeeper allegedly spent three months working for Emma in Britain; her job came to an end at the start of February. If the investigation turns up any proof immigration guidelines were indeed violated, Emma could pay fines up to £10,000 (that’s more than $17,000).
Emma’s people have yet to comment on the matter. We’re just happy officials didn’t find a house-elf.
