From Dancing With the Stars to the big screen — such is the life for Chad Johnson (formerly known as Chad Ochocinco). The one-time NFL wide receiver has parlayed his many TV appearances into a role in the Miami-based film Overtown.
"This movie is homegrown," writer-director Cess Silvera told NBC Miami of the film, which also stars True Blood’s Kelly Overton. "It is about a few friends born and raised in Overtown” who get over their heads in a bad way.
The Overtown locals are reportedly thrilled to have Chad in their part of town. As extra Michelle Green said, “He is a very handsome guy and very cool.”
NBC Miami talked to Chad, himself, about this huge next step in his burgeoning career.
"(I was) putting my feet in the water while I was playing for 10, 11 years — doing little appearances here in different movies, different sitcoms," he said. "And now it's time to focus on the next chapter in life."
Chad has had a terrible few years in the media and with regards to the legal system after he allegedly head-butted his then-wife, Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada, over a year ago. More recently, Chad tapped his attorney on the tush during legal proceedings and was reprimanded for that as well. We’ll see if he has better luck on a professional level with this new movie.
As he said in his interview with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts many months ago, “Everyone deserves a second chance.” Perhaps this is it.
Does he deserve it? Sound off below!
