Remember that time when Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson was about to get away with no jail time after violating his probation, but he screwed it all up because he slapped his lawyer’s ass? Yeah, so do we.
But for those of you that need a refresher, all you really need to know is that Chad was practically a free man — literally moments away from signing a plea deal that would have kept him out of jail — but when he slapped his lawyer’s butt in celebration and everyone in the courtroom laughed, the judge decided to teach him a lesson and threw him in jail, completely ditching the plea deal.
Last night, June 11, TMZ reports that Chad’s lawyer filed paperwork with the judge in an effort to get her to reconsider her decision because the controversial love tap was actually meant as a sign of respect . The court documents say, “Mr. Johnson has been a professional football player in the National Football League for eleven (11) years and patting another individual on the backside is viewed as a sign of respect and gratitude.”
Chad’s lawyer also noted that he doesn’t believe his client should be punished because his actions made others in the courtroom laugh. “This is not Mr. Johnson's fault and he should not be punished for the actions of third parties,” the docs say.
We don’t often side with Ochocinco, but we have to admit that this latest jail sentence is a bit ridiculous. The judge will review her decision on Monday, June 17, but Chad will remain in jail until then.
Do you think the judge should release him, or should he stay in jail?
