Over the past eleven years, Grey’s Anatomy has brought us a lot of memories — and we aren’t even on the show! Of course, the memories are that much more real for the cast, and it’s time to hear about Chandra Wilson’s (Miranda Bailey) favorite moment.

It isn’t something that happened recently, or even in the last five years. Chandra’s most memorable Grey’s moment happened in the pilot.

“It would have to be that pilot episode, the experience of that very first episode,” Chandra said when she stopped in to chat with Steve Harvey this week. “It was my first time being a series regular on a dramatic television series. I had all these lines, I had all these monologues that I had to say, but it was really about setting up the kind of woman Dr. Miranda Bailey was going to be and how I was going to treat those interns.”

Come to think of it, Bailey was responsible for the framework of most of the first season. Anything that happened to our original team of interns — Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Alex (Justin Chambers), Izzie (Katherine Heigl), George (T.R. Knight) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) — was a chain of events that, from the very beginning, needed to be set off by Bailey. It’s impossible to imagine what the show would be like without her!

“If ever I’m confused about the essence of who this woman is, I always go back to that first episode, and it teaches me not necessarily who she is, but certainly who she thinks she is,” Chandra added.

Maybe it’s time we all hit Netflix and rewatched the pilot episode. We’re feeling nostalgic already!
