America's Next Top Model

Meet the Cycle 21 Top Model Contestant With a Rare Skin Condition (PHOTOS)

Cycle 21 of America’s Next Top Model hasn’t even started yet, and we’ve already picked our favorite. Meet Chantelle Brown-Young, a young woman who definitely knows how to smize and work her angles. The thing that separates her from the other girls? White patches of her skin covering random parts of her body, resulting from a skin disorder called vitiligo.

Vitiligo, which the National Institutes of Health describes as a disorder with unknown causes that is believed to destroy cells that produce skin pigment, has been something that Chantelle has had to overcome and embrace — thanks in part to Tyra Banks.

“The bullying started when I went to school. It was tough. I definitely had problems with self-esteem,” the 20-year-old contestant tells People. “I’d only been modeling for maybe a year before [Tyra] found me, so I was pretty fresh. The fact that she wanted me so badly for her show will stick with me for the rest of my life.”

Click through for more photos of Chantelle and don’t miss the Cycle 21 premiere tonight, August 18, at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
