Charlie Askew Loses Touring Gig to Aubrey Cleland on American Idol 2013

Last week, we were floored to welcome the return of two favorites from the American Idol 2013 Top 20, Charlie Askew and Aubrey Cleland. The two singers had a sing-off to let viewers decide which one would join the Season 12 Top 10 on the American Idols Live! summer tour.

Charlie went out on a limb and performed an original song called “Sky Blue Diamond” and even played the piano at the same time — a skill we didn’t even know he had up his sleeve! He confessed that the tune was born out of a difficult breakup the young artist went through just before embarking on his American Idol journey. Aubrey, on the other hand, played it safer and sang Irene Cara’s “Out Here on My Own,” turning in a lovely performance.

Tonight, the two were brought back out on stage for the voting results. Unfortunately for Charlie Askew, his leap of faith didn’t pay off as well as he’d hoped, as America decided to choose Aubrey Cleland to join the Top 10 on tour this summer.

While we think Aubrey is great, we were a bit disappointed to learn we won’t be seeing more of Charlie’s awkward charm in the coming months.

Do you think voters made the right choice, or was Charlie robbed?
