Charlie Hunnam Left Fifty Shades Because He Thinks It’ll Bomb — Report

Charlie Hunnam has shockingly departed the role of Christian Grey in the highly anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation, and the studio blames it on scheduling conflicts. However, a new report claims that Charlie thinks the movie will be an epic flop. Uh-oh.

In news that isn't likely to make Fifty Shades of Grey fans feel confident about the film's progress, Hollywood Life reports that Charlie left the movie voluntarily because he was having second thoughts about its impact on his career.

“Charlie got cold feet,” an industry source claims. “He wanted to get out of the movie because he was feeling like it would be his version of Showgirls, and he didn’t want to be remembered for that.”

Careful, Charlie: Those could be fightin' words, as the book's legions of fans aren't going to like hearing it compared to the notorious '90s strip-club debacle featuring Saved by the Bell's Elizabeth Berkley, who pretty much hadn't worked in between Showgirls and this year's Dancing with the Stars.

However, there may be a few other factors that impacted the Sons of Anarchy star's exit from Fifty Shades. "Nor is Charlie ready for the celebrity he would receive if the movie worked out," continues the source. "Add that with the studio execs being highly disappointed by the reaction to the casting, they wanted to start over with a clean slate."

Okay, so maybe the decision wasn't entirely Charlie's to make. Either way, it ultimately appears that both sides are happy with the ways things shook out.

But are you happy? After all, this might mean that one of the many other fan favorites will get another shot. Alex Pettyfer had been rumored to be the frontrunner at one time, while Magic City's Christian Cooke and Divergent star Theo James were reportedly the two other finalists besides Charlie. Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson, Matt Bomer, Henry Cavill, and Ian Somerhalder have all topped various reader polls for who should play Christian.

So long, Charlie. We hardly knew ye.
