Charlie Hunnam is certainly the most buzzed about name in Hollywood right now, having recently won the role of Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie adaptation. And while the film is hotly anticipated (in more ways than one), many fans have been vocal about their displeasure in seeing Charlie get the role over their picks — especially Rob Pattinson and Matt Bomer.
So, what do Charlie’s Sons of Anarchy co-stars think about their pal getting the role of a lifetime? Are they on board, like we are, with the thought of the heavily-abbed actor taking it all off, or do they wish one of the teen idols had taken on the role?
E! News caught up with the cast at the SoA Season 6 premiere party to find out. "Charlie's the man for the job. He's really not afraid of taking on big challenges,” Maggie Siff, who plays Jax’s (Charlie) wife on the show. “I really think he's going to step that movie up. It's going to be exciting." Hey, if anyone knows how it would be to spend a couple hours in bed with him, it’s his play-acting wife, right?
The rest of the cast agreed. His TV mom Katey Sagal had a very parental response, saying of the 33-year-old, "We're very happy for Charlie. If Charlie's happy, we're happy. We love Charlie. He’ll be great." And the SoA creator, Katey’s husband Kurt Sutter, was just as effusive, gushing "He's a movie star. We've known that for a while.”
But not everyone was stoked to see him tie one (so to speak) on onscreen. Charlie’s SoA pal Kim Coates — who plays sometimes rival Tig on the FX show — is supportive of him, but only to a point. While he says he’s “really proud” of his pal, he added something that no one has said before: “I don’t want to see him naked and everyone else does, so that’s fine!” Truth.
Fifty Shades of Grey, co-starring 23-year-old Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, starts filming this fall and is due out on August 1, 2014.
