Cher Lloyd Defends Selena Gomez Against Lorde’s Diss

Everybody’s singing along to Lorde’s single,“Royals,” in the car lately — come on, you know you love it! The 16-year-old newcomer was practically an overnight success, climbing the charts before she’s even graduated high school.

But now that Lorde’s officially arrived, she’s having a little trouble playing nice on the playground.

Recently, Lorde dealt a major diss to Selena Gomez, calling her “anti-feminist” because of the lyrics in Sel’s hit “Come and Get It.”

I’m a feminist and the theme of [Selena Gomez’s] song [“Come & Get It”] is, ‘When you’re ready, come and get it from me,’” Lorde told Rolling Stone. “I’m sick of women being portrayed this way.”

But don’t worry: according to E! Online, Selena was at the ready with a rebuttal. “It’s not feminism if you’re tearing down another artist,” she said. “She’s young, she’s got so much talent, she’s gonna take over, she gets it, so I don’t take it to heart.”

And even though the case was closed after Selena’s amiable response, Cher Lloyd wasn’t having it and jumped into the ring herself.

"Why does she [Lorde] have to go do that? She's doing so well—what a knob," Cher told J-14. "Why would she do that? She's sitting at number one.”

"I think she's going to eat her words, which she obviously already has, and I think for someone who's gaining so much success so early, she should be considering herself lucky. It takes a lot of work," Cher continued. "You know what, though? If she said something about me, it'd be a different story. I wouldn't stand for any of that, I'd be straight back on it."

Don’t worry, Selena — in the future when asked for a comment on someone’s diss on your music, just defer to Cher. She’s got this.
