Cheryl “Salt” James Hits the Kentucky Derby — See What She Looks Like Now! (PHOTOS)
The world got its first look at hip-hop/rap artist Cheryl James when she splashed onto the world as Salt of the duo (or trio) Salt-n-Pepa back in the mid-’80s. The last time we saw the former all-girl rap group member was back in 2008, during her appearance on the short-lived VH1 reality show, Let’s Talk About Pep featuring groupmate Sandra “Pepa” Denton looking for love. But it looks like Salt made a red carpet appearance at the 140th annual Kentucky Derby on May 3, 2014 and she’s looking better than ever!

On the red carpet, the 48-year-old Brooklyn native donned a white lace tea-length dress with a huge pink bow fascinator atop her head, and we have to say that she looks completely sweet.
After several albums and a string of hits in the ‘90s like “Shoop” and “Whatta Man” featuring En Vogue, Salt decided to leave the group and the platinum-selling group disbanded in 2002.
In 2005 Salt, Sandra “Pepa” Denton, and Deidra “DJ Spinderella” Roper were honorees at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors and, a year later, the trio reunited to perform together for the first time in 6 years. In 2007, the ladies chronicled their reunion in the short-lived VH1 reality show The Salt-n-Pepa Show. We watched as the ‘80s rap group worked through internal lingering issues among its members, as well as new forces affecting their possible return to music — most notably Salt’s renewed faith in Christianity.
Now, the married mother of two looks great and occasionally performs with Pepa and Spin… you know, just to show these youngins how it’s done.
