Chris Brown Could Face Jail Time and It’s All Because of His Pet Monkey
Chris Brown has found himself in some hot water.
The singer got a pet monkey just last month, but he reportedly never got a permit to keep his animal around.
According to TMZ, the father of one could even face criminal charges!
The “Fine China” hitmaker shared a video last month of his 3-year-old daughter Royalty playing with the monkey, who is named Fiji.
Fans were upset with the 28-year-old and revealed the monkey belongs in the wild.
“How cruel is this? How would you feel if your daughter was taken from you and forced to be someone [sic] ‘pet’? That baby belongs with its mother. Do the right thing,” one user wrote.
“Really sad. Wild animals should not be kept as pets,” another person said.
“Teach your daughter to respect wildlife not take advantage of it for selfish reasons [sic]. This is so sad,” somebody else wrote.
Several people notified the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, who then opened an investigation against the “Forever” hitmaker.
The police obtained a search warrant, but Chris agreed to give up the animal before they raided the house.
He could be charged with “having a restricted species without a permit,” which carries maximum sentence of six months in jail.
His lawyer, Mark Geragos, released a statement about the case.
"As I leave my office in Downtown L.A. and walk past people sleeping on the street on my way to defend people charged by the City Attorney with selling medical marijuana ... now spending taxpayer money on investigating monkey business, this completes the circle on his absurdity.”
