Like his Glee character Kurt Hummel, Chris grew up in a small town with big city dreams. Growing up in Clovis, California, he honed his acting chops in community and regional theater. In high school, he was involved in drama, presided over the writers' club (of which he was the only member), edited the school literary magazine, and was a speech and debate champion. He also wrote, directed, and starred in Shirley Todd, a musical spoof of Sweeney Todd, at the end of his senior year. Chris would make Kurt proud!

Chris originally auditioned for the role of Artie (with the song "Mr. Cellophane"), but Glee creator Ryan Murphy was so impressed with him that he added the role of Kurt. Impressive! Chris is the youngest member of the cast and the newest to the Hollywood scene — "Kurt" is Chris's first major role, and it's been a pretty sweet gig: along with the rest of his co-stars, he won a 2010 SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Random factoid: Chris lost over 40 pounds in 2007 thanks to "horrible methods called diet and exercise."
