See Adam Levine’s Emotional Tribute to Christina Grimmie on ‘The Voice’ (VIDEO)
The coach showed that with a heartbreaking performance honoring the Season 6 star on Tuesday’s (April 25) episode of the NBC show.
It’s been a big week for the late star, who lost her life at 22 in June 2016 when she was shot by a deranged fan.
Just a couple days ago, Christina was honored with an award at the Humane Society Gala, and the YouTube star was celebrated again at her alma mater last night.
It makes the most sense that Team Adam — Jesse Larson, Lilli Passero, Mark Isaiah, and the coach himself — would be the ones to perform the tribute.
After all, the Maroon 5 singer and his former mentee were very close — so much so, he helped pay for her funeral.
The group chose the Beatles song “Hey Jude” for the dedication.
“God, I loved her so much,” Adam said to Christina’s family in the audience ahead of the performance. “I am talking to you guys specifically, I’m talking to everybody. I miss her.”
He continued, “It is unfair she is not here. We are going to sing a little song. I am going to be singing every word to her in her honor. Thank you for being here. Christina, we love you.”
After the song, he and host Carson Daly also announced the Christina Grimmie Foundation, benefiting “those impacted by gun violence and families, just like her own, affected by breast cancer.”
“As you know, family is very, very important to us here at The Voice, and last year we tragically lost one of our own, the incredibly talented and beautiful Christina Grimmie,” Carson detailed.
“Tonight, in memory of our good friend and along with Christina’s family, we’re honored to help announce the creation of the Christina Grimmie Foundation.”
He concluded, “Thank you for letting us be a part of this very important moment. And Christina, we feel your spirit here at The Voice every single day and we love and miss you dearly.”
Such a beautiful way to honor a rising star, taken from us too soon. Well done, The Voice!
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
