The Originals: Claire Holt Says Matt Is “Pretty Settled in Mystic Falls” (VIDEO)
Just one more week until the October 3 premiere of The Originals! In this exclusive video interview, Claire Holt gave NOLA38 (the home of The CW in New Orleans) some hints about Rebekah’s adventures in a new city, and we can’t wait to watch her light up the screen next Thursday.
The entire cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries’ spin-off has said over and over that the tone of the new series is darker than TVD, and Claire confirmed it once again, also adding that the Mikaelsons are “relishing being vampires, as opposed to living with being a vampire. I think fans are really gonna love it.” Of course we are! We can’t wait to see the O.G. vamps revel in their fanged familial power.
Claire also said The Originals is definitely all about family: “That’s the underlying theme, family. And of course there are sub-themes of love and war. But family is really at the crux of this whole show, and I think that’s really compelling to watch.” So true.
About Rebekah’s motivations for following her brothers back to the Big Easy, Claire said, “I think her primary motivation is her loyalty to family. She has a tension with Klaus and feels betrayed by him, but at the end of the day she’s always stayed true to the oath that she made, which was always and forever.” Tension?! Talk about the understatement of the year. The guy staked you with white oak more than once! Oh well. We guess the sentiment is kind of sweet.
Also sweet, Rebekah’s admiration for Elijah: “she loves and respects Elijah, so when he asks something of her it’s hard for her to say no. I think despite the tension that’s been growing and brewing with the family, she loves them and she wants it to work out.” Aww! We really like that.
But what about that sexy summer vacation with Matt? Will we see that continue? Sadly, Claire said that’s not in the cards: “I don’t think we’ll have any Matt in New Orleans anytime soon. He’s pretty settled in Mystic Falls.” But HOLD UP! Holt did say there’d be some kind of romance for her character.
Claire dropped a major hint about Rebekah’s love life, saying, “There’s definitely romantic history with certain characters on the show. So we’ll get to see that develop.”
